Bowl ‘labrum’

260.00

Inspired by calabash bowls and viking bowls this form emerged out of years of turning and experimenting. Like all my creations it is made out of one solid massive piece of a local tree, this time oak. The tree was felled by a storm two summers ago and now it gets a second chance.
As it was turned while the wood was still wet the bowl developed a wavy edge while drying, much like rolling hills in nature. The colors you see are not the ‘natural’ colors of oak, but they are naturally created by using an iron-walnut solution and oils. The reaction that happens in the wood fibers is unique every time.
